Jindal Global Law School’s Faculty Research in Scopus-Indexed Publications Exceed all NLUs /blog/2022/02/09/jindal-global-law-schools-faculty-research-in-scopus-indexed-publications-exceed-all-nlus/ Wed, 09 Feb 2022 05:42:55 +0000 /blog/?p=2592 Continue Reading]]> Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) of 91̽ (JGU)has reached the remarkable landmark milestone of300+ academic research publications by its faculty members of which 280+ are indexed in SCOPUS during 2020-2021. Scopus is the largest database of peer-reviewed literature in the world. The record 280 faculty publications comes in the middle of the pandemic, where the stress on all individuals was enormous. Academicians in JGLS, and other educational institutions, have been balancing teaching and research commitments since March 2020. The persistent efforts of Jindal’s law faculty isa testamentto the commitment and dedication of India’s number one ranked law school towards cutting-edge research and scholarship.

It is important to put these numbers in perspective. There are 23 National Law Universities (NLUs) in India. The first Indian NLU on this list is 35 years old and the top four/five NLUs were established in the 1980s and the 1990s. An analysis of the SCOPUS database managed by Elsevier publishing house reveals that, for the same period, Jindal Global Law School’s record 280 Scopus-indexed publications are twice the number of Scopus-indexed publications listed by all the 23 NLUs combined. On average, one NLU can be credited with 6 SCOPUS publications in 2020-21.

Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, Founding Vice Chancellor, 91̽ & Founding Dean, JGLS, extending his compliments to all faculty members who contributed to this significant accomplishment, stated, “This is an extraordinary feat by the Jindal Global Law School. 280+ articles in reputed journals and edited books is an outstanding achievement for a young law school that is just 12 years old. Of course, a large body of research work is published in reputed journals that may not be indexed in SCOPUS. This is a remarkable sign of the strength and resilience of the law faculty of JGU and legal scholars and practitioners in general. I feel this is an important day in Indian legal research and education where the overall Indian knowledge ecosystem stands to benefits greatly from this achievement. I congratulate the faculty members of JGLS and the Office of the Research Dean of JGLS for their committed, continuing, and commendable efforts”.&Բ;

Professor (Dr.) Sreejith S.G., Executive Dean, JGLS stated that, “Faculty members of JGLS, who are also outstanding scholars in their respective fields, turned the conditions created by the COVID-19 Pandemic into ‘perspectives’ to study the state of play and the new normal. Many of the publications responded to the questions the world had on the sustenance during the Pandemic and rediscovering the post-Pandemic world. Their research hence has the spirit of reimagination, recovery and redemption and has the story of courage, confidence, and capacity”.&Բ;

This achievement is the result of consciously evolved policies and practices that have systematically prioritized faculty research, created an enabling environment for research and carefully guarded research space and time of JGLS faculty members. JGLS has also set up a dedicated Research Deans’ Office under the leadership of Prof. Dipika Jain, Vice Dean (Research) and Prof. Shivprasad Swaminathan (Associate Dean, Research) and Albeena Shakil (Associate Dean, Research), which has organized several faculty research seminars and faculty research colloquia for discussing the working papers of faculty members, and workshops on the process of publishing throughout this difficult pandemic period. They consulted over 200 faculty members to create comprehensive policies on research and put in place robust processes and enduring institutional structures for propelling research at JGLS. The Office created a framework of mentoring faculty members in their early-career and enabled them to publish in high impact journals. The importance of SCOPUS publications in the context of a university’s benchmarking to international standards cannot be overstated.

Professor Dipika Jain, Vice Dean (Research), JGLS explained the School’s efforts during the period. “As a research centric University, we identified research initiatives which brought together scholars presently at different points of their intellectual journey into the collegial enterprise of supporting each other’s research. The approach of the School towards research has been ‘publish and flourish’. This motto became a hope during the murkier phase of the Pandemic. This hope drove us to build an ecosystem of collaborative knowledge creation, as we sensed that world which would recover from the Pandemic would need ideas for restoration. Mindful of this, we motivated our colleagues to unfold their thoughts and enabled the younger ones by collaborating and deliberating on the art and joy of critical reading, thinking, and writing”.&Բ;

Professor Dabiru Sridhar Patnaik, Registrar, JGU observed, “With this stellar achievement of JGLS, all schools of JGU will encourage its faculty members to redouble their efforts towards further sustaining a vibrant culture of research that has been fostered over the last decade or so at JGLS — a culture in which scholars thrive and along with it. JGLS continues to build on its position as a premier institution for research not just in India, but globally. I would like to extend my heartiest congratulations to the faculty members of JGLS and wish them the very best in scaling even greater heights in the time to come.”

91̽ Breaks into the World’s TOP 500 Universities in the QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2022 /blog/2021/09/23/o-p-jindal-global-university-breaks-into-the-worlds-top-500-universities-in-the-qs-graduate-employability-rankings-2022/ Thu, 23 Sep 2021 05:31:28 +0000 http://jgu.edu.in/blog/?p=2418 Continue Reading]]> 91̽ (JGU) is ranked among the world’s top 500 universities in the prestigious QS Graduate Employability Rankings (GER) 2022 released today

JGU’s overall ranking in the QS GER 2022 is 301-500. QS GER makes a global comparison of the employability outcomes of higher education institutions, therefore, making JGU one of the leading institutions globally for creating robust and globally recognised career pathways for the youth. To achieve this despite the turbulence of the global pandemic is extraordinary. JGU’s ability to produce high- performing achievers is reflective of the university’s cutting edge and progressive curriculum and effective career-services governance which enable the graduates of the university to be highly employable, and act as instruments of change at any organizations that they are a part of.

This recognition is also a testament to JGU’s constant commitment to breaking the stereotypes of success within the Indian Higher Education landscape. This is indicated by multiple dimensions of this accomplishment. Firstly, JGU is the only Indian university to be featured in these rankings that is purely focused on social sciences, arts and humanities. Secondly, it is one of the only two private Indian universities on this list; the other being the nearly-six-decade old Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (BITS Pilani). Thirdly, JGU, established in 2009, remains India’s youngest university on this illustrious list of 11 other Indian universities that have made it to the QS GER rankings this year. The list includes 6 IITs, University of Delhi, BITS Pilani, University of Mumbai, Indian Institute of Science, and University of Calcutta. The youngest among the Indian institutions ranked in QS GER 2022, JGU is also among the top 71 institutions in Graduate Employment Rate (GER). JGU has also received an impressive score of 86.9/100 in Graduate Employment Rate, a key indicator considered for the rankings that involves measuring the proportion of graduates (excluding those opting to pursue further study or those who have made themselves unavailable for work) in full or part-time employment within 12 months of graduation.

Congratulating the JGU community on the achievement which cements the university’s position among the world’s premier higher education institutions, Mr. Naveen Jindal, Founding Chancellor, JGU, said, “I am humbled to learn that JGU now ranks among the top 500 of the world’s higher education institutions in the prestigious QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2022. As we mark the 12th Anniversary of JGU on 30thSeptember 2021, this remarkable achievement couldn’t have come at a better time. It is a true reflection of the vision and imagination that led to the creation of JGU in 2009. It is indeed the result of the outstanding contributions of the faculty members, students and staff of JGU across all these years. This recognition proves that efforts to establish JGU as a centre of excellence that produces outstanding leaders in various walks of life are bearing fruits. This is a commendable accomplishment during this year given the impact of the global pandemic on the employment of students worldwide. I am filled with pride to see that JGU has overcome various challenges to provide world-class employment opportunities to its students even during a global health crisis.”

Expressing the significance of this accomplishment for JGU in carving a future especially for non-STEM students of India and the worldProfessor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, Founding Vice-Chancellor, JGU said,“The fact that in just 12 years since its establishment, JGU has emerged as one of the World’s Top 500 universities in the coveted 2022 QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2022 is a fantastic recognition of the university’s capacity to produce world-class graduates. In addition to putting in place world-class infrastructure and serving as a hub for erudite scholars from different parts of the globe, JGU has also established a robust Office of Career Services which connects our students with potential employers. I believe that these factors, combined with the university’s focus on imparting interdisciplinary experiential learning, providing our students with opportunities of international exposure as well enabling them with internships with leading organisations have contributed immensely to the elevation of JGU’s status as a globally recognized institution in QS GER 2022. JGU’s entry into QS GER also shows that non-STEM graduates can also develop impactful career trajectories given the right platform. JGU will continue to work towards strengthening its platform for creating meaningful and globally recognized career pathways for non-STEM aspirants.”

Recognizing the efforts of the JGU community in achieving this important milestone, Professor Dabiru Sridhar Patnaik, Registrar, 91̽ said, “This recognition fills us with great joy and humility, especially since it comes on the heels of the QS World University Rankings (WUR) 2022, released in June this year, which ranked JGU as India’s number one private University. It is a reflection of the commitment JGU has towards the youth of our nation. To have achieved this within just 12 years has made JGU the youngest Indian university in these rankings. As a non-STEM private university, JGU continues to strive towards breaking barriers. This achievement of JGU is indeed a result of the collaborative efforts of the JGU academic fraternity as a whole, including the students whose commitment and perseverance has been instrumental in achieving this important milestone. JGU will always ensure creation of experiences and curriculum that will help its students evolve into valuable assets to their employers, and demonstrate great leadership skills in their careers.”

Highlighting the competitiveness of these rankings and commenting on the significance of this accomplishment, Professor Arjya Majumdar, Dean, Office of Benchmarking and Institutional Transformation, said,&Բ;“JGU has made it to the top 500 universities from among a very competitive pool of institutions worldwide. In fact, it relies on a very rich data set of survey responses. For this year’s edition of international rankings, QS considered responses from over 75,000 employers, over 40,800 mapped degrees and affiliations of over 29,000 high-achievers, nearly 170,000 employers’ connections with graduates, and evaluated over 310,000 work placement partnerships. Also, this recognition is all the more significant this year as many young graduating students across the nation still face high levels of uncertainty amidst the ongoing pandemic. These rankings demonstrate JGU’s institutional resilience and its commitment towards overcoming challenges of all kinds to continue building word-class opportunities of employment for the students.”

The QS GER methodology is very robust and ensures the consideration of multiple and diverse parameters. For determining these employability rankings of higher education institutions across the world, QS considers how well reputed the institutions are among employers, whether the institutions are nurturing high-achievers, how connected institutions are to companies and how attractive the institution’s recent graduates are to employers. QS considered the following indicators and weightings to calculate the scores for GER 2022: employer reputation (30%), alumni outcomes (25%), partnerships with employers per faculty (25%), employer-student connections (10%) and graduate employment rate (10%).

He was generous, affectionate, caring, compassionate and always ready to extend a helping hand. His values and passion have deeply inspired and influenced me. Over 100 Internships in Australia for JGU Students studying International Relations, Public Policy, Humanities, Business and Law /blog/2021/06/03/over-100-internships-in-australia-for-jgu-students-studying-international-relations-public-policy-humanities-business-and-law/ Thu, 03 Jun 2021 06:15:09 +0000 http://jgu.edu.in/blog/?p=2366 Continue Reading]]> More than 100 students of International Relations, Public Policy, Humanities, Business and Law from the 91̽ (JGU)have been awarded internships in leading Australian organisations. Despite the constraints presented by the global Covid-19 pandemic, 103 students have been selected for internships at CyberEQ and IAIE in 2021.

JGU has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with Australia-based Institute for Australia India Engagement (IAIE) and Cyber EQ to create opportunities for students to undertake internships in Australia. With IAIE, students will participate in the Student Mentoring and Research Training (SMART) program over a period of 1-2 months. For those students interning with Cyber EQ, students will conduct important research on regulatory and technological issues around cyber security.

The internships will mentor students for future research, academic and professional roles and impart training to build research skills in academic writing including data collection and management, preparing hypothesis, abstracts and conclusion and presentation skills among other skill. The internship programme will also impart key leadership skills to the students.

Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, Founding Vice Chancellor of 91̽ said, “At a time where travel is limited, the virtual engagements with Institute of Australia India Engagement and Cyber EQ will allow students from different disciplines at JGU to undertake unique internship opportunities in Australia. These international internships are another example of JGU’s focus on ensuring that students have opportunities to meaningfully engage with institutions from around the world during their studies. In the future, our students will be able to pursue these internships by travelling to Australia and experiencing it in a more engaged manner.”

CyberEQ Founder, Mr. John Mackenzie has been impressed with the entrepreneurial and forward-thinking innovation of JGU in supporting emerging start-ups. The partnership between JGU and CyberEQ enters its third intake with more than 64 virtual interns, now expanding the research focus to existing and emerging inconsistencies between the traditional and technological challenges facing Cybersecurity. “The virtual internship program is student-centric research that provides a unique learning environment. An objective is to ensure each student receives quality coaching and mentoring so that each intern has the greatest experience and opportunity to learn. JGU students have a unique opportunity to explore a deeper understanding through higher education by bridging the gap from a legal, business, and psychological perspective to technology. A particular focus of the internship program is how students relate to the emerging challenges through real-world experience working on real-world projects, while also preparing for the future of work, and the new jobs of tomorrow. Key areas have included privacy, data protection law, AI, and behavioural science, particularly as we face the growing difficulties in cyberspace.”

CyberEQ focuses on workforce behavioural risk, supply chain counter-party risk, and international cyber regulations, legislation and standards.

“I am extremely delighted to observe and be a part of 91̽’s partnership with numerous organizations and multiple platforms in Australia. This partnership is an outcome of global perspective and JGU’s collaborative. JGU’s association with Australia has evolved over a period of time. Even during the pandemic, the virtual internships by Cyber EQ and the Institute of Australia India Engagement have been a catalyst. I am certain of an enriched and prolific growth of this partnership in times to come,” said Professor (Dr.) Pankaj Gupta, Dean of the Office of Career Services.

Dr. Ashutosh Misra, CEO and Executive Director of IAIE said“IAIE is committed to strengthening Australia-India ties by nurturing future thinking leaders, professionals and academic experts in collaboration with JGU. The Student Mentoring and Research Training (SMART) program is an important part of this vision, encouraging meaningful contributions from the next generation of leaders in the bilateral relationship”.

Dr. Misra noted that research interns will have the opportunity to contribute to high-impact evidence-based research publications, participate in training workshops, and prepare content for the “Youth Pulse” section of India News, a fortnightly publication in Australia.

IAIE is a not-for-profit policy institution which aims to strengthen Australia-India Strategic Partnership through evidence-based research, exchange of new knowledge, targeted policy dialogues and innovative business solutions for the government, corporate and community stakeholders.

Professor Shaun Star, Director of the Centre for India Australia Studies at JGU, said that “Students at JGU, and more generally in India, are increasingly looking to Australia for future studies or employment opportunities. Through international internship programmes, such as the virtual internships with IAIE and CyberEQ, and degree pathways at leading Australian universities, we are providing our students with greater opportunities to experience what it is like to work and study in Australia.”

As an organisation, CyberEQ provides a business intelligence solution for workforce and supply chain risk mitigation. CyberEQ has developed a self-learning AI autoimmune system that detects workforce threats, vulnerabilities, risks and anomalies faster, and before they occur. This allows for the deployment of early interventions to kill cancerous cells by stopping them from growing and multiplying. While research and development forms the basis of CyberEQ’s product development and team passion, the team at CyberEQ coach, mentor and lecture undergraduate and post graduate students, and actively challenge them to explore deeper understanding of the root cause of cyber, and how the global finite resources can be applied to have a meaningful improvement (impact) in countering the escalating issue.

IAIE achieves its mission by organising (i) policy-driven multi-disciplinary project collaborations with Australian, Indian and international partners on foreign policy, defence and security, business and trade, energy, education, sports and culture; (i) multi-track policy dialogues involving policy makers, strategic analysts, academics, sportspersons and business leaders; (iii) targeted capacity development and business solutions for stakeholders in both countries; (iv) special orations, public lectures and seminars on bilateral and strategic issues; and (v) community dialogues, media engagements and public events to strengthen multiculturalism in Australia and India.
