Jindal\nGlobal University (JGU) and Youth Forum on Foreign Policy (YFFP) have commenced\nIndia&#8217;s first foreign policy fellowship, the \u2018YFFP-Jindal Foreign Policy\nFellowship Programme\u2019. The YFFP-Jindal Foreign Policy Fellowship programme aims\nto establish an interface between young researchers, experienced practitioners\nand scholars from different areas of expertise within the field of\ninternational relations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congratulating the pioneering\nbatch of eight Fellows, Ambassador Nalin Surie, Director General, Indian\nCouncil of World Affairs, hailed the Fellowship as a landmark initiative for\ngetting young minds to contribute to the study of foreign affairs. He said,\n\u201cThe purpose of this Fellowship is to stimulate students to reflect on foreign\npolicy. The subjects chosen by these young Fellows are topical and\ncontemporary, the need of the hour is innovation and a fresh approach which is\nwhat these young scholars will bring.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. C Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor\nof JGU, said, \u201cInitiatives like this Fellowship help provide a platform for\nyoung scholars to work and publish on issues of contemporary relevance and help\ndevelop constructive dialogue around regional consciousness in South Asia. We\nare at a unique time in history where educational institutions should\ncollaborate with think tank and research organizations to become leaders in\nknowledge creation.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Gaurav Gogoi, Member of\nParliament, Lok Sabha, and Founder Secretary, YFFP, said, \u201cWhat is holding\nIndian universities behind is not the lack of human resources but the lack of\nquality research and knowledge creation.\u201d He further emphasised that, \u201cOur\nuniversities should take a lead in designing socioeconomic and foreign policy\nideas and plans, and help eliminate the current dependency on consultancies.\nThe need of the hour is for universities to contribute, advise and\nsignificantly aid governments in decision making in the fields of domestic and\nforeign policies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Sreeram, Dean\nof JSIA said, \u201cIt is a matter of pride for us to partner with YFFP and to bring\nto fruition the dream of launching a unique foreign policy Fellowship that will\nbring talent from across our region in South Asia and create scholars to\nadvance research and knowledge of issues that are of cutting-edge importance\nboth to India and the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first batch of 8 Fellows have\nbeen selected from across India and SAARC countries through a highly\ncompetitive and rigorous process and include; Ms. Loveleena Sharma, Masters in\nInternational Relations, South Asian University; Mr. Moses Raj GS, Lawyer and\nFormer advertising professional; Ms. Angana Das, Masters in Conflict Analysis\nand Peace Building, Jamia Milia Islamia; Mr. Joy Mitra, Masters in Diplomacy,\nLaw and Business, Jindal School of International Affairs; Ms. Nayantara\nShaunik, Masters in International Relations, London School of Economics and\nPolitical Science; Mr. Peerzada Raouf, Masters, Centre for studies in Regional\nDevelopment, JNU; Ms. Prapti Adhikari, Masters in International Relations,\nSouth Asian University; and Mr. Syed A. A. Farhan, Masters in Diplomacy, Law\nand Business, Jindal School of International Affairs.&nbsp; &nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elaborating on the rigorous process of\nselection, Dean Chaulia, added, \u201cWe are covering a wide range of topics among\nthese 8 Fellows to create discourse that will be publishable. The Fellows have\nbeen selected in a very competitive process. Dr. Waheguru Pal Singh Sindhu of\nthe Brookings Institution and Dr. Siddharth Mallavarapu of South Asian\nUniversity were on the panel the conducted the interviews and made the\nselections.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Fellows will generate high\nquality research output on issues such as South Asian politics, regional\neconomic integration, international media &amp; culture, energy security, cyber\nsecurity and climate change. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>JSIA is India\u2019s first global\npolicy school training students in international economics and politics.
