  {"id":1157,"date":"2018-10-27T07:33:51","date_gmt":"2018-10-27T07:33:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jgu.edu.in\/blog\/?p=1157"},"modified":"2019-11-07T08:57:06","modified_gmt":"2019-11-07T08:57:06","slug":"jindal-global-university-to-train-teachers-from-afghanistan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jgu.edu.in\/blog\/2018\/10\/27\/jindal-global-university-to-train-teachers-from-afghanistan\/","title":{"rendered":"Jindal Global University to Train Teachers from Afghanistan"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Regional Afghan Junior Faculty Development Program<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>27 October, 2018:<\/strong> Ball State University (BSU), Indiana, USA, in partnership with 91Ì½»¨ (JGU), Sonipat, India, has been awarded a grant from the US Department of State and U.S. Embassy, Kabul through the Regional Afghan Junior Faculty Development Program. The title of this US government-funded project is \u2018Afghan Faculty Forum for Enrichment, Collaboration and Training (AFFECT)\u2019. This program entails BSU hosting a cohort of Afghan junior faculty members for a 10-week professional development stint at JGU in India from January 2019 onward. \u00a0It will present trainees with an innovative, interactive forum for course development, student engagement, student-centered teaching, curriculum development, and English instruction, as well as providing insight into the American system of higher education. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Expected\noutcomes from this program include aiding participants in their professional\ndevelopment, acculturation to U.S. educational and cultural expectations,\nestablishing opportunities for sustainable mentoring relationships,\nopportunities to audit U.S. style courses, and to aid participants in\ndevelopment of an action plan and academic product for implementation upon\ntheir return to Afghanistan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\njoint training of teachers from Afghanistan between BSU and JGU is expected to\nmake a valuable contribution to nation-building of a strategically important\ncountry for the United States and India that is facing severe challenges of\narmed conflict and instability. The AFFECT program will also enhance academic\ncooperation between the US and India, two democratic partner countries which\nshare common goals and aspirations.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>JGU\nlocated at Sonipat, Haryana, India just outside New Delhi, is one of the best\nresearch-intensive social science universities in South Asia. Deeply committed\nto its core institutional values, the university has been awarded the highest\ngrade &#8216;A&#8217; by the National Accreditation &amp; Assessment Council (NAAC) of\nIndia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking about this award, the Dean of the\nJindal School of International Affairs (JSIA), Professor Sreeram Chaulia said:\n\u201cThe future of Afghanistan will be determined by not just the end of war and\nterrorism but also the quality of higher education that the country can offer\nto its youth. Development of Human Resources holds the key for stabilising\nAfghanistan\u2019s in the medium to long terms. As an Indian university, JGU is\nproud to be part of this nation-building exercise for Afghanistan.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Vice Chancellor of JGU, Professor C. Raj\nKumar added: \u201cJGU has an excellent track record in capacity building of civil\nservants, civil society activists and corporate executives. We have also been\ntraining teachers and lecturers from within and outside India over the years.\nThis prestigious US government-supported grant is a major affirmation of our motto\nof a \u2018Private University Promoting Public Service\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>JGU\nhas previously conducted capacity building programs for&nbsp;more than 40\nAfghan civil servants on a World Bank-funded project and has a strong\nreputation for upgrading skills of working professionals from developing\ncountries through executive education courses. JGU\u2019s International Institute\nfor Higher Education (IIHEd) has experts on pedagogy. JGU also hosues India\u2019s\nfirst and only Centre for Afghanistan Studies (CAS) within the Jindal School of\nInternational Affairs (JSIA). Dr. Moushumi Mukherjee, Assistant Director of\nIIHEd, and Dr. Raghav Sharma, Director of CAS, will take the lead in JGU to\nimplement the AFFECT program in coordination with BSU colleagues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nBSU project team assembled for this proposal includes Dr. David Roof as the\nprinciple investigator and Jan Miller as the project director who have worked\nin Afghanistan on higher education reform over years and have many personal\ncontacts in the country to help facilitate the management of the project. Dr.\nBradley-Levine will serve as an instructor and the evaluator. Dr. Sushil K\nSharma will serve as the lead instructor on the project.
