Sun Weidong, Ambassador of the People\u2019s Republic of China in India"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Sonipat, 29<sup>th<\/sup> October 2019:&nbsp;<\/strong>Emphasizing the need for joint collaboration in higher\neducation, H.E. Sun Weidong, Ambassador of People\u2019s Republic of China in India urged the Indian and Chinese\ngovernments to \u201csupport and facilitate ways of academic cooperation and\nexchanges between the two countries by creating new opportunities, establishing\nplatforms and providing support for universities in both countries.\u201d He was\naddressing a scholarly gathering to celebrate the 5<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary of\nthe Centre for China India Studies (CICS) at the 91Ì½»¨\n(JGU).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also shared the news of a high level delegation\nmeeting between India and China and the possibility of mutual degree recognition.\n\u201cA high level delegation from the Indian Ministry of Human Resource Development\nwent to China and met the senior officials of the Ministry of Education to have\nthe first meeting of a joint working group. The two sides reached consensus on\nthe various ways in the education field including discussing the details of\nmutual degrees\u2019 recognition agreement between both countries which will surely\nbenefit more students to study in each other&#8217;s countries after the signature of\nthe agreement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To help jointly achieve world class institutions in India\nand China, the Ambassador also mooted the idea of establishing India-China centers\nat various universities in both countries. \u201cThe universities of the two\ncountries should consider the establishment of a China-India University Alliance\nso that we can all share advantages, have joint exchanges and research programmes\nand work together for a better education outcome which will benefit our faculties\nand students by improving teaching quality and help achieve world class level\nuniversities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his Keynote address, he\nappreciated the efforts of CICS in promoting India- China relations including\nacademic exchanges, talks and conferences. To further the reach of bilateral\nunderstanding in the field of higher education he proposed establishment of\nsuch centres in other Indian universities too, for better understanding of the Chinese\nlanguage, culture and history. \u201cWe think language is the key to understanding.\nThere are more and more young people in India who would like to study Chinese\nculture and language. We are willing to help Indian universities establish centres\nand provide platform to Indian students to learn Chinese language and\nunderstand Chinese culture and history,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Welcoming the Ambassador to\nJGU the Founding Vice Chancellor Prof (Dr) C. Raj Kumar\ncongratulated CICS on its ceaseless\nefforts to promote India-China relations. On the need to build stronger ties between\nthe two countries he said, \u201cWe cannot rely upon governments alone to build a stronger\nconnect between India and China. We as academic institutions, thinkers,\nscholars, students, researchers have a bigger responsibility that goes beyond\nany government to strengthen this partnership.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;The following session on the Indian Ambassadors\u2019 Panel Discussion on\nthe \u201cFuture India-China Relationship\u201d included Mr. Vijay Nambiar, former\nAmbassador\/High Commissioner of India to Algiers, Afghanistan, Malaysia, China\nand Pakistan and Former Permanent Representative at India\u2019s UN Mission in New\nYork; Mr. Anil Wadhwa, Distinguished Fellow, Vivekananda International\nFoundation &nbsp;and the &nbsp;former Ambassador of India, Italy, Poland,\nOman and Thailand with Mr. Suresh Goel, Distinguished Fellow, Society for\nPolicy Studies and former Ambassador of India to Lao People\u2019s Democratic\nRepublic &amp; Former Director General of Indian Council of Cultural Relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The session was chaired by Dr. Mohan Kumar, Professor and Vice-Dean &#8211; Global\nInitiatives and Institution Building (GIBS), Jindal School of International\nAffairs and the former Ambassador of India to France, who helmed the intellectual discussion by not only introducing the\nesteemed panelists but also to share their views on the current scenario and\ncontext of India-China relations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The week-long celebration commemorating the 5<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary of CICS witnessed events ranging from India-China Art Exhibition, Artist Dialogue and Workshop, Ambassadors\u2019 Panel discussion on India-China Future Relationship, Cross-culture Dialogue on Gender Equality in India and China, Distinguished Public Lecture on various themes. The event witnessed participation of students, faculty, artists, dignitaries from both countries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Centre for\nIndia China Studies<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Centre for India China\nStudies (CICS) was established in October 2014 by the 91Ì½»¨\n(JGU).
