  {"id":1515,"date":"2019-12-04T04:57:52","date_gmt":"2019-12-04T04:57:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jgu.edu.in\/blog\/?p=1515"},"modified":"2019-12-11T04:58:35","modified_gmt":"2019-12-11T04:58:35","slug":"jgu-secures-top-rank-in-swachh-campus-ranking-2019-for-3rd-year-in-a-row","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jgu.edu.in\/blog\/2019\/12\/04\/jgu-secures-top-rank-in-swachh-campus-ranking-2019-for-3rd-year-in-a-row\/","title":{"rendered":"JGU SECURES TOP RANK  IN SWACHH CAMPUS RANKING 2019 FOR 3RD YEAR IN A ROW"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This is the third time in a row\nthat JGU has been conferred with this award.JGU was awarded the 1<sup>st<\/sup>\nand the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> position on the Swachh Campus Rankings in 2017 and 2018\nrespectively. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These awards were given away at\nan impressive function by the Secretary, Higher Education Department, Mr. R.\nSubrahmanyam in New Delhi on 3<sup>rd<\/sup> December 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In all, 6900 higher educational\ninstitutions applied for this award in 2019 of whom, 140 were shortlisted by\nthe Ministry of Human Resource Development for inspection, after a detailed\nscrutiny and a rigorous process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 3<sup>rd<\/sup>&nbsp;Swachh\nCampus Award process was undertaken by the Ministry of Human Resource\nDevelopment as a part of the Swachh Bharat Mission of Government of India to\npromote environmental hygiene in the Higher Education System and beyond.\nSpeaking on the occasion, Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Shri\nRamesh Pokhriyal \u2018Nishank\u2019 said, \u201cThe ranking system was based on various\nparameters of hygiene like student-toilet ratio, hostel hygiene, hostel kitchen\nhygiene, availability of water, water conservation measures, campus greenery,\nadministrative responsibility for hygiene etc. has been formulated by the\nMinistry to generate peer pressure amongst educational institutions to improve\ntheir level of campus hygiene and also take up off-campus hygiene activity in\nnearby villages\/surrounding areas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dec 4, 2019: <\/strong>O.P.\nJindal Global University has been awarded the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> rank in the Swachh\nCampus Ranking 2019. It\nobtained this rank in the Residential Universities category.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The founding Chancellor, O.P.\nJindal Global University, Mr. Naveen Jindal said, \u201cI am personally delighted at\nthis unique recognition and honour. We had been striving to maintain world\nclass standards at JGU and implemented various best practices in waste\nmanagement and other areas. I compliment the faculty, staff and students of JGU\nfor scoring this pleasant hat-trick. We are fully committed to creating a\nsustainable campus of which, our country can be truly proud of.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Founding Vice Chancellor of\n91Ì½»¨, Prof. (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar said, \u201cThis is an\noutstanding honour for the University to receive the award for the 3<sup>rd<\/sup>\ntime in a row. This recognition motivates us to achieve greater standards in <em>swachhata<\/em>.\nWe have undertaken a series of measures to ensure that we foster a sustainable\nand enriched environment in which students and faculty are closely involved. As a fully residential campus with\nmore than 5000 students, we are fully committed to the highest standards of\ncleanliness and hygiene on the campus. JGU has taken innovative and pioneering steps to\nensure hygiene, cleanliness, waste management, recycling, energy conservation,\nwater management, preservation and enhancement of green cover.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nearly 57% of the JGU\ncampus is under green cover including a 50 metres green belt on the periphery\nof the campus. As a result, JGU\u2019s campus is host to a wide variety of species\nof flora and fauna. With over 7500 dustbins across the campus, a twin-bin policy\nhas been implemented for garbage segregation. Segregated garbage is collected\nby the Municipal Corporation of Sonipat. Green waste is converted into\nvermicompost for further horticulture use. Sewage water is treated in our\nsewage treatment plant and the treated water is used for irrigation and cooling\ntower in HVAC usage. In order to reduce our dependence on ground water, 34\nrainwater harvesting chambers have been constructed to recharge ground water\nlevel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O.P. Jindal Global\nuniversity also works with more than 10 villages in its vicinity and has\ncarried out Swachhata Campaigns to make them self-sustainable. These villages\ninclude Chhatera, Jagdishpur, Garhibala, Rathdhana, Rohat, Badh Khalsa,\nBahalgarh, Nahara, Khanpur and Rai in the Sonipat District of Haryana.\nConsequently, several villages have become open defecation free. JGU is now\nextending its Swachhta campaign to 15 more villages thereby contributing to\ncommunity development and empowerment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Team of faculty, staff and\nstudents visit these areas to carry out several cleaning activities which\ninclude, among others, cleanliness drives in the vicinity; removal of any\naccumulated\/ stagnated water; distribution of dustbins and other hygiene\nproducts; educating residents on the benefits of personal hygiene and\nenvironmental cleanliness; educating residents on open defecation and creating\nawareness about female hygiene and distribution of female hygiene products. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senior Economic Adviser, Ministry\nof HRD, Mr. V.L.V.S.S. Subba Rao, the Chairman UGC, Professor D.P Singh;\nChairman, AICTE, Shri Anil Sahsrabudhe; Joint Secretary, Ministry of HRD, Mrs.\nNeeta Prasad, Chief Innovation Officer (CIO), Dr Abhay Jere were also present\non the occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ABOUT O.P.
