{"id":538,"date":"2016-10-06T05:30:05","date_gmt":"2016-10-06T05:30:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jgu.edu.in\/blog\/?p=538"},"modified":"2019-11-20T11:02:02","modified_gmt":"2019-11-20T11:02:02","slug":"if-my-laundry-bag-could-speak-by-hedwig","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jgu.edu.in\/blog\/2016\/10\/06\/if-my-laundry-bag-could-speak-by-hedwig\/","title":{"rendered":"If My Laundry Bag Could Speak &#8211; by Hedwig"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-1 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/jgu.edu.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/tumblr_inline_oevr16RcRq1un32nx_640.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"539\" data-link=\"https:\/\/jgu.edu.in\/blog\/?attachment_id=539\" class=\"wp-image-539\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jgu.edu.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/tumblr_inline_oevr16RcRq1un32nx_640.jpg 600w, https:\/\/jgu.edu.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/tumblr_inline_oevr16RcRq1un32nx_640-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/jgu.edu.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/tumblr_inline_oevr16RcRq1un32nx_640-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>This is the first poem in a series of poems that explore what the commonplace objects in a student\u2019s life would say if they underwent an Enid Blyton-esque change overnight, and could speak.<\/em><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If my Laundry Bag could speak,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It would, first, cough up some dirty clothes<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And some torn sheets of paper before<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clearing its throat<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And screaming;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It would say I\u2019m abusive,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That I neglect and dirty until<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My closet\u2019s count of clothes is nil<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the bag sits<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Still clearly weeping;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The phrase<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll give my laundry tomorrow\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Puts it in perpetual sorrow<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because it knows that \u201ctomorrow\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Never really comes;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It hangs heavy meanwhile,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bearing the weight of dirty shirts<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a smile \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tougher than an Amazonian crocodile<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With thumbs;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I would sit by its side<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And offer some comfort<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But I suspect it would be nothing but curt \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apologies I would have to blurt<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Until it softens;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ll resist pride and admit \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If my Laundry Bag could speak,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And could remind me regularly,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I would wash my clothes aggressively and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More often.<br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is the first poem in a series of poems that explore what the commonplace objects in a student\u2019s life would say if they underwent an Enid Blyton-esque change overnight, and could speak.
