It was a chance I had to take without knowing what exactly the consequences would be.<\/em><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>But I took it anyway.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>And, I realized, that it is indeed true what Mikhail Bulgakov said \u2013&nbsp;<\/em>\u201cEverything will turn out right, the world is built on that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And you can still get round-the-clock nachos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the gates that stood<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Powerful and looming<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I waited,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Uncertain,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The roar of the sea of activity<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An (un)welcome reminder<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of the life<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lying in wait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ushering in<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The excitement<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I ran inside<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trying to be different<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From myself \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cHello\u201d,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cHow are you\u201d,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cI\u2019m \u2013\u201c<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You stop short.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cI\u2019m not an extrovert\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new is terrifying,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And even more so<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When every time you think of it<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your nerves<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rattle<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like never before;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tell yourself<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That it\u2019s okay for them<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To behave as if<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The wind was picking them<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tell yourself that<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s&nbsp;<em>valid<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For you to be out all day<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And to sit<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spinning<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between one thought and next,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thinking<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019re in over your head,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And still<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Be<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Normal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You do not have to<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spend all your time<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Being one<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or the<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tell yourself<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That you\u2019re not at fault<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For not being able to thrive<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The way<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Others do \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tell yourself<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You don\u2019t have to imagine<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those who do<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To be fanged vampires<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Who have risen from the dead<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only to leave you tired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tell yourself<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That it is<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And always will be<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Okay<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For you to be you<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Vonnegut said,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cThere\u2019s only one rule I know of \u2013<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>You\u2019ve got to be kind.<\/em><br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A year ago, I was faced with the terrifying possibility of moving to a University so far away from home and comfort and round-the-clock nachos \u2013 an opportunity that I was desperate to accept but also regard with suspicion because, you see, I\u2019m not a person of the outernet.
