Oedipus,<\/p><p>The Greek Tragedy, the Epic, the Romantic, his adventures at Colonus,<\/p><p>I spent last night awake, listening to Vivaldi,<\/p><p>Soaking in lives lived long ago, in that little melody.<\/p><p>You know, when you\u2019re joining college, there\u2019s always that one admissions person, who promises you the world,<\/p><p>And you arrive in college, and you find it at your footsteps.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Green grasses to lie on and blue skies to dream at,<\/p><p>The portraits and names lining the hallways, winking at all who pass.<\/p><p>Almost as if to say, that, in class,<\/p><p>There\u2019ll always be that one subject, you can never pass.<\/p><p>Math. No, don\u2019t get me wrong.<\/p><p>I loved Math, with all my heart and soul.<\/p><p>Math, just didn\u2019t love me back.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Tell me what more would have you jump off a cliff,<\/p><p>Than a High School scorecard that read A, A, A, A, A, and F!<\/p><p>Math was the pineapple on the pizza. The Justin Trudeau to my Trump,<\/p><p>The sober one in the party, the wicket to the stump.<\/p><p>I still loved Math, I love its curves, its figures.<\/p><p>But no matter how I tried,<\/p><p>I just couldn\u2019t solve its problems.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Math told me, \u201cYou just couldn\u2019t add it all up and figure it out, could you?<\/p><p>You couldn\u2019t let me be, couldn\u2019t stand our love being linear,<\/p><p>just HAD to make it complex, didn\u2019t you?<\/p><p>You needed me. Admit it,\u201d Math said.<\/p><p>\u201cYou needed me everyday. I was the Pi in your Piscine,<\/p><p>And you knew, the moment, that this was a Sine,<\/p><p>That we were never meant to be together.\u201d<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Our love was asymptotic, always tending closer and closer together, but never meeting.<\/p><p>So, after my dreadful heartbreak, after divorcing Mathematics,<\/p><p>I fled to my solace &#8211; the wonderful, aesthetic, Arts.<\/p><p>Here, I delved into economics and sociology, philosophy and psychology,<\/p><p>And I was happy. After all those months, I could finally say, that I was over her.<\/p><p>That Math couldn\u2019t hurt me anymore. I had many dates with History,<\/p><p>Philosophy taught me to see the world anew, with Amartya Sen and Nussbaum,<\/p><p>Telling me that I have capabilities and abilities, and to my country I am a balm.<\/p><p>They taught me that I can, YES, I can<\/p><p>Until in my second semester,<\/p><p>Came Immanuel Kant.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>In the 3rd semester crept from nowhere, Statistics,<\/p><p>And, it wasn\u2019t the stones that broke my bones, it was the sticks.<\/p><p>Tore me down like I was made of paper, not bricks,<\/p><p>Little did I know that she was back, that this was repackaged Mathematics.<\/p><p>I was so filled with optimism, positivism, realistic compatibilism,<\/p><p>But now. Jean Paul-Sartre filled my bones, entered existentialism,<\/p><p>I felt slumber die into insomnia, and heartbreak into intellectual pneumonia,<\/p><p>My lungs filled with the fluids of doubt,<\/p><p>I HAD NO CLUE WHAT THIS SUBJECT WAS ABOUT.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>All my life, in the liberal arts,<\/p><p>I believed that, like Obama, Yes\u2026 Yes I can.<\/p><p>It was all alright, till I met Statistics,<\/p><p>And realized, that I Immanuel Kant do this no more.<\/p><p>But I went on.<\/p><p>Because the truth is,<\/p><p>We study the arts.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>The night is too beautiful for us to fall asleep,<\/p><p>So we cringe our eyes bathed at the orange winter light, and weep,<\/p><p>Reading poetry misunderstood, but so deep.<\/p><p>I forgive Math for all its differences,<\/p><p>And embrace the least common denominator of our preferences,<\/p><p>And learn.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>To believe in ideals, when the world tells you to be pragmatic, to be realistic,<\/p><p>And every other word that asks to just not dream.<\/p><p>Telling you that they couldn\u2019t do it, so we shouldn\u2019t either.<\/p><p>That the limits of their world, should be the limits of ours.<\/p><p>But we\u2019re the dreamers, aren\u2019t we?<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Living,<\/p><p>\u201cTo see the world in a grain of sand,<\/p><p>And heaven in a wildflower,<\/p><p>To hold infinity in the palm of our hand,<\/p><p>And eternity in an hour,\u201d<\/p><p>Have the university be our little universe,<\/p><p>Live our days as \u201cthe blameless vestal\u2019s lot,<\/p><p>The world\u2019s forgetting by the world forgot. \u201d<\/p><p>We study the Arts,<\/p><p>rendering us powerful in our vulnerability,<\/p><p>To the fragile world, a good enough start.<\/p><p>Have us listening to music that comes from a star,<\/p><p>happy knowing that it\u2019s warm, even if afar.<\/p><p>We study the Arts.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>And,<\/p><p>Each lonely, incredible, starry night here,<\/p><p>\u201cIt is a far, far better thing that we do, than we have ever done;<\/p><p>And a far, far better rest that we go to,<\/p><p>than we have ever known.\u201d<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column
