The Centre hosted the next edition of its India @ 2047 Lecture Series, focusing on the theme ‘AI in Legal Practice: Reflections on the Supreme Court’s White Paper and Beyond.’ The session featured two distinguished speakers who were directly involved in shaping the thinking behind the Supreme Court of India’s White Paper on Judiciary and Artificial Intelligence: Dr. Anurag Bhaskar, Faculty Member at JGLS and Former Director of the Centre for Research and Planning, Supreme Court of India; and Prof. Shubham Kumar, Assistant Professor and Assistant Dean at JGLS and Former Consultant at the Centre for Research and Planning, Supreme Court of India. The White Paper, released by the Supreme Court’s Centre for Research and Planning, represents a landmark moment in India’s legal landscape. The lecture provided a rare opportunity to hear directly from those who shaped the document and to engage with the broader questions of what the White Paper means for courts, lawyers, and litigants, and what opportunities and challenges lie ahead for AI in Indian legal practice.
