
Prof. Nikhil Naren, Assistant Director at the Centre, was invited as a Resource Person for the Online Advanced Certificate Course on ‘Regulatory Framework of Data Protection, Privacy, Cyber Security and Emerging Technology’, designed exclusively for officials of the National e-Governance Division (Digital India Corporation), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. His module focused on ‘Emerging Technologies and Related Issues: Biometric Data, Surveillance Tech, and Human Rights’, with an emphasis on translating fast-evolving technologies into implementable governance choices that protect innovation while safeguarding constitutional and human rights values. Prof. Naren’s module covered AI concepts and the emerging regulatory landscape; AI and ethical considerations including fairness, accountability, transparency, and risk governance; fintech lending and blockchain in India; and the impact of emerging technologies on data protection, with particular attention to consent, purpose limitation, security safeguards, and institutional oversight. The Centre contributed to this capacity-building initiative aimed at advancing a future-ready, rights-respecting regulatory framework for the data-driven economy.
