The Centre had previously submitted detailed comments on the draft rules, several of which were addressed in the final notification. In particular, the Centre had highlighted the pitfalls of including text within the definition of synthetically generated information and had argued for keeping non-harmful modifications, such as the regular editing of images, audio, and video, outside the scope of the rules. The Centre had also flagged concerns regarding overly strict labelling requirements. In the final rules passed by the Ministry, these concerns were addressed. The rules adopt a principles-based approach to labelling rather than prescriptive technical mandates.
