Nitin Sharma is a management researcher specialising in the human dimensions of artificial intelligence at work. He holds a Ph.D. in Management (Human Resource Management) from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA), where his doctoral research examined Generative AI (GenAI) and Algorithmic HRM. He earlier completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Management (HRM), First Class, from XLRI Jamshedpur, and a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering, First Class, from the National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur.
His doctoral work investigates the conditions under which GenAI and algorithmic HRM augment, rather than replace, human capabilities in organisational HR systems. Drawing on the automation–augmentation paradox and the dynamic capabilities perspective, and using a complementary mixed-methods design, he demonstrates that AI augmentation is mediation-dependent and identifies the governance, cultural, and capability conditions under which algorithmic HRM enhances human agency.
His research interests span algorithmic HRM, GenAI and the future of work, human–AI augmentation, strategic HRM, digital transformation, and platform and gig work. His research has been presented at the Academy of Management Annual Meetings in Philadelphia (2026), Copenhagen (2025), Chicago (2024), and Boston (2023), and EGOS, Athens (Greece, 2025). He served as a reviewer for ABDC A-rated journals, including International Migration and Applied Psychology: An International Review.
Before entering academia, he worked with the Talent Management and Culture team at IDFC FIRST Bank, leading leadership-assessment initiatives and supporting succession-planning systems for a large workforce. He is a certified user of the SHL OPQ and Hogan psychometric suites, and has taught as Adjunct Faculty at Ahmedabad University.
