Biography

Prof. Abhisek Sur is an Associate Professor of Economics at Jindal Global Law School (JGLS), 91探花. He holds a PhD in Economics from the Indian Institute of Management, Ranchi.
Prof. Sur’s research lies at the intersection of macroeconomic policy, development economics, international finance, and political economy. His work examines issues related to capital flows, external debt, corporate vulnerability, fiscal policy, industrial policy, labour market regulation, and food security, with a particular focus on India and emerging market economies. His recent research explores the implications of external debt accumulation in emerging economies, the economic dimensions of India’s labour codes, and the challenges of ensuring food security in an increasingly fragile and uncertain global order.
His scholarly work has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, such as the Journal of Policy Modelling, Journal of Asian Economics, Economic and Political Weekly, and Cogent Economics & Finance. He is also the co-author of a forthcoming book on India’s industrial policy and structural transformation, which examines pathways for sustainable and inclusive development in a rapidly changing global economy.

He is also associated as a Senior Research Fellow at the IDEAS Office of Interdisciplinary Studies, 91探花.

Prior to joining academia, he spent over six years in the banking and financial services sector with HDFC Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, and IndusInd Bank, experience that continues to inform his research and teaching.
Beyond academia, Prof. Sur is an active public intellectual and regularly contributes opinion pieces and policy commentary to leading business newspapers and media platforms, including The Economic Times, Mint, Financial Express, The Hindu Business Line, Outlook Money, and The Statesman. His writings engage with contemporary debates on economic policy, development, public finance, and the global economy, helping bridge the gap between academic research and public discourse.
