Biography

Sourav is Associate Professor of Law at Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) of O. P. Jindal Global University, Sonipat and is a member of the Advisory Committee constituted by the Supreme Court of India in Jane Kaushik v. Union of India, 2025 INSC 1248. The Committee is tasked to formulate an equal opportunity policy for the transgender community and recommend transgender inclusive law and policy changes. Additionally, he sits on the Editorial Board of Jindal Global Law Review (Springer) as their Associate Editor. Previously, he was visiting faculty at Georgetown University’s Centre for Transnational Legal Studies, London (Fall, 2024 term) and member of the School Board of the School of Gender and Development Studies, Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi between 2022-24.

His scholarship broadly sits on the intersections of Law and Society; Gender, Sexuality and Governance; Global Queer Movements and Law Reform. At JGLS, he teaches Constitutional Law and Legal Methods to undergraduate law students, and Legal Research Methodology and Comparative Public Law to post-graduate law students. Additionally, he offers an elective course titled ‘Transnational Queer Justice and Family Law’.

Previously, he was Assistant Professor at the School of Law, Christ University, Bangalore, India where he offered undergraduate courses on Constitutional Law; Human Rights; and Law and Society. Before that, he had worked with the Centre for Women and Law, National Law School of India University on their Human Rights Lawyering Project.

He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Law from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore, India for his research over the impact of family jurisprudence on queer lives in India. Formerly, a Felix Scholar, he received Master of Research (M. Res.) in Law and Society from the School of Law, University of Reading, United Kingdom. He holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the Indian Law Institute, New Delhi, India and Bachelor of Arts and Law (B.A., LL.B.) from Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, India.
