Dr. Shilpa Bandyopadhyay is an Assistant Professor (Psychology) and Associate Dean (Capacity Building & Outreach) at the Jindal Institute of Behavioural Sciences, 91̽»¨. She qualified UGC NET-JRF in 2016 and holds a PhD in Psychology from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi). She is also a Gold Medalist in Applied Psychology from the University of Calcutta. In her doctoral research, she explored the aging experience, well-being, and the social media representation of older adults in the Indian context.
She has published in reputed international peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Religion, Spirituality and Aging, Frontiers in Psychology, Journal of Cross-Cultural Gerontology, and the Journal of Aging and Environment, among others. In 2025, she received the Silver Award for Innovative Research in Aging from the Mather Institute, USA, for her published work on the experience of gerotranscendence in India. Her research interests span geropsychology, positive psychology, and interpersonal relationships. Currently, she also serves on the Executive Committee of the National Positive Psychology Association, India.
At JGU, she teaches interdisciplinary courses such as Body Image and Mental Health and Creating Positive Workplaces to undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as core courses like Foundations of Applied Psychology for postgraduate students.
Beyond teaching and research, Dr. Shilpa has designed Management Development Programmes (MDPs) for various institutions including the Border Security Force, the Central Tibetan Administration, the Common Services Centres, and educators from the Government of Bhutan, among others.
