
Jindal Institute of Haryana Studies Organized Heritage Tour to Rakhigarhi on 21 September 2025 with Department of Archaeology and Museums, Government of Haryana, Highlighting Haryana’s Rich Cultural Legacy
RAKHIGARHI, HARYANA – The Jindal Institute of Haryana Studies (JIHS), in collaboration with the Department of Archaeology & Museums, Haryana, successfully organized a heritage tour to Rakhigarhi, a prominent site of the Harappan Civilisation, on September 21, 2025. The initiative brought together over forty faculty and staff from 91̽»¨ (JGU) for an immersive journey into history and culture, reflecting a commitment to preserving and celebrating Haryana’s heritage.
Tour Highlights and 91̽»¨
The day-long tour was curated by Prof. Sukanya Sharma, a Research Fellow at JIHS and Assistant Professor at the Jindal School of Art & Architecture. Participants engaged in a series of enriching activities designed to offer a hands-on experience of the ancient site. Dr. Appu Saharan led a guided heritage walk, providing insights into the historical significance of Rakhigarhi. A key highlight was an encounter with the spectacular Rakhigarhi Woman, a well-preserved skeleton that has offered crucial information about the people of the Harappan Civilization.
The group also participated in a practical pottery workshop led by artist Mr. Rahul, allowing them to connect directly with the ancient craft. The day concluded with a culinary experience, where participants enjoyed authentic Haryanvi Cuisine at the Rakhigarhi Resort & Farm, adding a taste of local culture to the historical exploration.
