<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>The 2nd WORLD UNIVERSITY SUMMIT (WUS) 2023 was a significant event hosted by 91̽»¨ (JGU) from March 27-31, 2023, focusing on \u201cUniversities of the Future: Building Institutional Resilience, Social Responsibility & Community Impact in G20 Countries,\u201d bringing together global academics and leaders to discuss higher education\u2019s role in sustainable development, technology, and societal challenges.<\/p>\n
This World Universities Summit was special because it entailed participation of 100 Universities from G 20 countries and was taking place against the backdrop of India\u2019s presidency of the G20 grouping, which culminated in the Delhi G20 Summit of leaders in September 2023. The summit featured numerous sessions on achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), fostering innovation, and strengthening global cooperation, acting as a prelude to the larger G20 leaders\u2019 summit in India.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
The Chief Guest Shri V. Muraleedharan, Hon\u2019ble Minister of State for External Affairs, Government of India delivered the Inaugural Address. The Valedictory Session was given by Dr. Subhas Sarkar, Hon\u2019ble Minister of State for Education, Government of India.<\/p>\n
The five-day summit began on March 27, 2023 brought together 160 national and international participants from all G20 countries across six continents and involved:<\/p>\n<\/div>
The welcome address was delivered by Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar Founding Vice Chancellor, O. P. Jindal Global University while the introductory remarks was be given by Professor (Dr.) Mohan Kumar, Dean and Director, Jindal Global Centre for Studies, O. P. Jindal Global University. A special address was given by Professor (Dr.) Pankaj Mittal, Secretary General Association of Indian Universities.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
Announcing the inauguration of the World Universities Summit 2023, Prof. (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar said, \u201cIt is a rare occasion for such a high level gathering of globally recognized academics and educational experts from G20 countries to come together to discuss issues that directly impact the future of education. It is an honour to welcome renowned intellectuals and academics to this unique multi-country summit. As part of the five-day conference we will discuss and analyze the needs, challenges and requirements of higher education across renowned institutions of G20 countries. Under India\u2019s presidency of the G20, it is our endeavor to contribute towards cooperation, collaboration and development of higher education partnerships. Our sessions will seek to address key issues and will aim to find solutions and build a new foundation in education amongst countries that comprise the G20 group.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
Sessions were organised keeping in mind the contemporary context and needs of higher education amongst G20 countries. As part of the 30 thematic sessions there were several special addresses and discussions on important themes, some of which include high level discussions on topics like<\/p>\n

Altbach, Founding Director & Research Professor Center for International Higher Education, Boston College, United States of America and Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar. Founding Vice Chancellor, O.P. Jindal Global\u00a0University, India; No Room Of One\u2019s Own: Redefining Work Life Balance In A Post-Pandemic\u00a0World\u00a0conducted with Professor (Dr.) Victoria Jones, Senior International Officer,\u00a0University\u00a0of California, Irvine, United States of America; a keynote address and discussion Building\u00a0World\u00a0Class\u00a0Universities In India: One Rank At A Time By Dr. Ashwin Fernandes Regional Director \u2013 Mena & South Asia, Quacquarelli Symonds, India;\u00a0 Building\u00a0World-Class\u00a0Universities: The American Imagination For Higher Education, by Professor Peter H. Schuck Simeon E. Baldwin Professor, Emeritus of Law, Yale Law School, Yale\u00a0University, United States of America and Dr. Geoffrey M. Cox, Senior Associate Dean, Finance & Administration, Graduate School of Education, Stanford\u00a0University, United States of . Other sessions have themes which include Being Glocal:\u00a0University\u00a0as a Site of Local Innovation & Meaningful Community Engagement; Breaking the Glass Ceiling:\u00a0Universities Promoting Equality & Nurturing Future Women Leaders; Academic Freedom & Democratic Leadership: Autonomy versus Accountability; Holistic Higher Education: Role of Interdisciplinary Studies in Overcoming Challenges of the 21st Century amongst many other high level discourses.<\/p>\n
Professor (Dr.) Mohan Kumar, Dean and Director, Jindal Global Centre for G20 Studies, O. P. Jindal Global\u00a0University\u00a0said that the\u00a0summit\u00a0was an opportunity for India\u2019s cooperation with the\u00a0world\u00a0as part of its spiritual and abiding theme of building global relationships. \u201cThere was a special session on Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam: Values Of Global Citizenship & Role Of Higher Education Institutions with Professor (Dr.) Kim Brooks, Provost & Vice President, Academic, Dalhousie\u00a0University, Canada, Professor (Dr.) Lucas S.
