Our green spaces are designed to be both beautiful and sustainable. JGU is home to more than 1,50,000 trees and shrubs, and we prioritise water-conscious planting across the campus. We use treated wastewater exclusively for irrigation, with no freshwater or domestic water used, so our landscaping is both eco-friendly and resource-efficient. Over half of our campus area is green and landscaped space, cared for by a dedicated horticulture team, and an on-site nursery supports propagation.
We select plant species that thrive with minimal water, which helps us maintain a lush, green campus without placing pressure on local freshwater resources. Our key water-wise species include:
Most gardens and lawns are irrigated with treated water from our sewage treatment plants through efficient drip and sprinkler systems, which further reduces reliance on freshwater. By combining smart planting with recycled water, we maintain ecological balance, promote biodiversity and create vibrant outdoor spaces for learning and relaxation.
Our landscaping serves as a living example of how thoughtful design and careful plant selection can conserve water while enriching the campus environment.
