Sustainable Development Report

JGU publishes a Sustainable Development Report every year. The report is an initiative of the Office of Sustainability. It brings together the university’s policies, data, research, teaching and community work in one place, and shows how they contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. By reporting openly each year, JGU holds itself accountable for reducing its ecological footprint and for building sustainability into research, teaching and community engagement.

Release Series: Discussions on Sustainability

JGU does not release its report quietly. Each year, the report is released through a series of discussions held in cities across India and around the world, including Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh and Kochi in India, and Tokyo in Japan and New York in the United States. Each event brings together policymakers, legal and judicial figures, industry, civil society, academics and students, and uses the release of the report as a starting point for conversation on everything related to sustainability, from climate action and clean energy to responsible consumption, justice and partnerships. These discussions help JGU share what it has learned, hear from others, and carry the SDGs into wider public debate.

Sustainable Development Report 2026 (latest edition)

The Sustainable Development Report 2026 is JGU’s latest. It marks the tenth anniversary of the adoption of the SDGs and reports on every one of the 17 goals in turn: the policies behind it, the data, the research output and the events of the year. It also covers JGU’s global engagement and memberships, teaching and learning, campus features and the road ahead.

Key highlights:

  • 2.4 MW of on-site solar photovoltaic capacity, with renewable energy generation up by 100% in one year
  • 12,000+ trees on campus
  • 35% of the vehicle fleet electric
  • 5-Star rating for Environmental Impact in the QS Stars Ratings
  • Ranked 88th in the world for SDG 12 in the THE Impact Rankings

Conclusion

Reporting every year is one of the ways JGU keeps its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals visible and open to scrutiny. The Sustainable Development Report 2026 shows steady progress across the campus and the curriculum: more clean energy generated on site, a growing electric fleet, less paper and waste, wider partnerships, and research that is read and cited by governments and international bodies. It also shows how much remains to be done, and the report sets out the road ahead towards net zero emissions by 2035. Through the Office of Sustainability and the discussions that accompany each release, JGU will keep measuring its progress, sharing it openly, and inviting others to take part in the work.
