Affirmative Action

JGU's approach to affirmative action combines financial access, targeted outreach and non-discriminatory recruitment. The aim is that talented students, faculty and staff from every background can join, and stay, at JGU.

Planned Actions to Recruit Students

Merit-Cum-Means Scholarships

JGU awarded more than 2,000 scholarships for the 2024–25 academic year, and over 60% of students admitted in 2024 received a scholarship. The initiative marked the university's 15th anniversary. Scholarships are awarded on merit (CGPA) and means (family income), with recognition of achievement in arts, sports, debates and cultural activities. A Scholarship Committee reviews each application for equality and transparency, and the rules are reviewed every year.

Education Loan Support

JGU has tie-ups with AVANSE (ICICI), Dena Bank, Axis Bank and Credila (HDFC) to help admitted students obtain education loans.

Tracking and Outreach

Application and acceptance data of underrepresented groups are tracked through the admissions system, and outreach is directed to groups whose participation is low.

Planned Actions to Recruit Faculty and Staff

Equal Opportunity in Recruitment

Under the university's Policy on Non-Discrimination, Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action, recruitment, promotion and conditions of service are open to all, without discrimination on grounds of gender, race, caste, marital or civil partnership status, sexual orientation, religion or belief, age or disability.

Women's Access Plan

The Women's Access Plan and Policy sets out outreach to women applicants and candidates, support for first-generation learners, scholarships, and a target of 33% women in leadership positions.

Disability and Inclusion

Reasonable accommodation is available to prospective and current students, faculty and staff with disabilities through the Disability Support Committee.

Oversight

The Anti-Discrimination Committee monitors these measures, advises the university on proactive steps to advance substantive equality, and meets at least once every semester.
