JGU has a robust appeal process that supports employee rights and fairness. Staff can challenge decisions on recruitment, promotion, disciplinary action, pay or the outcome of a grievance by filing a written appeal. Independent committees review appeals, including specialists from the Committee on Gender Sensitization Against Sexual Harassment (COGSASH) and the Anti-Discrimination Committee.
Staff may bring a representative of their choice to an appeal hearing, and they receive written communication that explains the outcome and the reasoning behind each decision. If a complainant or respondent is not satisfied with a disciplinary action, or COGSASH does not act on a complaint, they can escalate the appeal to the Vice-Chancellor, as set out in the Faculty Handbook. The Vice-Chancellor’s level provides administrative oversight and final remedies, and the process follows clearly defined procedures.
