JGU is committed to paying living wages. Every person employed by the university earns at least the living wage set by national regulations and by JGU’s own fair work commitments, and this applies to every individual employed at the university, whether they are engaged directly or through third-party contracts. Our standards are designed so that staff, faculty and contracted employees can meet the cost of housing, nutrition, health care, education and transport for themselves and their families.
Pay at JGU is set with fairness in mind. Administrative staff salaries are competitive and above the living or legal minimum wage, and faculty salaries are competitive and above UGC pay scales, based on qualifications, experience and merit and benchmarked against industry standards. For contracted employees, pay matches or exceeds the statutory minimum wage and the living wage benchmark, and the basis for wages is communicated clearly and on time.
Support goes beyond base salary. Employees receive paid annual sick leave, maternity and paternity leave, medical coverage and, for eligible staff, subsidised housing. All workers have transparent access to information on pay rates and benefits, and JGU works to provide dignified working conditions and additional support wherever it can.
