At JGU, we review how energy is used across the campus so that we can find where it is wasted and act on it. Our reviews are carried out by external auditors and form part of the mandatory audit requirements set by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Three comprehensive audits (Energy, Environment and Green) were completed through physical site inspections, field measurements, a review of records and logbooks, and structured interviews with campus teams. Each received a satisfactory assessment, and the audit team formally certified that energy-saving and sustainability initiatives at JGU are well implemented and noteworthy.
The Energy Audit examined grid electricity, solar photovoltaic generation, diesel generator use, air conditioning, lighting, fans, water pumps and power factor management across the entire campus. It found a clear and significant shift towards energy efficiency and renewable generation. Grid electricity consumption fell even as the student and faculty population grew, which shows a genuine improvement in efficiency, and solar generation more than doubled as new installations at Gate 1, Gate 2 and the Naveen Jindal Sports Academy joined the existing rooftop arrays. The Green Audit, carried out by SGS India Pvt. Ltd., documented the campus’s energy, water, waste and environmental performance, and the Environment Audit reviewed our water sourcing, consumption patterns and conservation infrastructure.
These reviews are the basis for what comes next. They guide a plan of measures to comply with environmental regulations and standards, and the plan includes monitoring protocols and reporting requirements to track and improve our environmental performance over time. Our roadmap is to reduce the grid and fossil fuel share of our energy progressively by expanding solar capacity and exploring open-access renewable energy. We also carry out annual energy and green audits as part of our monitoring.
