Net Zero by 2035: JGU’s Commitment to Climate Action

JGU has committed to reaching net zero emissions across its operations by 2035. The university completed Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions accounting for FY 2024–25 with an external firm, and is quantifying Scope 3 emissions. JGU is a signatory to the Race to Zero campaign, an initiative of the United Nations Environment Programme, the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges and Second Nature, and signed the CANIE Accord and Glasgow Paper.

Target Date
Net zero by 2035. Emissions are measured under the GHG Protocol.

Action Plan
The plan is being developed across four areas:

  • Energy systems: expanding on-site solar, exploring open-access renewable energy and reducing reliance on the grid and fossil fuels.
  • Campus operations: energy efficiency, waste diversion, water conservation and paperless processes.
  • Transportation: electric golf carts, e-bikes and charging points, with fleet decarbonisation by 2027.
  •  Infrastructure: green building certification and efficient building standards.
