JGU works on planning and development issues in two ways: through the way it plans and builds its own campus within the local planning system, and through research and advocacy on inclusive and accessible places.
Planning the Campus with the Authorities
The campus was built in line with the building plan approved by the Department of Town and Country Planning, Haryana, and reuses excavated soil for backfilling and landscaping and treated water in construction. The university reports its energy, environment and green audits each year, and is working towards Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Green Campus certification.
Inclusive and Accessible Built Environment
Dr. Arnab Bose's research and social advocacy focus on an inclusive and accessible built environment. His advocacy led him to win an election in the local area.
Working with the Neighbourhood
Research on Urban Planning and Development
Research on urban informality and governance in the Global South (Prof. Deepanshu Mohan, Centre for New Economics Studies), on smart city frameworks (Prof. Srinivas Jangirala) and on disaster relief supply chains (Prof. Ashish Dwivedi) supports planning and development practice.
